Annie Gjelsvik, PhD

Annie Gjelsvik is an epidemiologist with experience in pediatrics, chronic disease epidemiology and state-level surveillance of chronic diseases. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and the Associate Director of the MPH Program at the Brown University School of Public Health. In addition she is the epidemiologist for the Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute. Prior to working with the Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute she had nine years of experience as an epidemiologist for the Rhode Island Department of Health, six of which were as the epidemiologist for the RI Diabetes Prevention and Control Program where her responsibilities included using population data for surveillance, intervention targeting and evaluation.
She has developed and taught multiple courses in research methods and data analysis to multiple audiences. She developed and currently co- teaches a two course sequence in biostatistics and data analysis primarily for master students enrolled in Brown University’s Clinical and Translational Research Master program and the Master of Public Health Program. In addition to biostatical content these courses give students a structured approach to secondary data analysis. She also developed and taught a research methods and data analysis course to Pediatric Fellows at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and taught “Research Methods in Clinical, Translational and Health Services Research “a six-week intensive course for post-doctoral (MD or PhD) students. In 2010 she received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in Public Health.
